Standard pattern US made M1917 Helmet complete with original liner. This is a US made helmet, as judged by the bail attachments. Code under rear rim is YJ 154. Original liner is in very good condition, showing little evidence of wear. Original netting, cinch string and padding intact. On the inside of the black liner band is a stamped 1917 as well as a partial maker’s mark. Also, there is a square stamp with “Ord. Dept” and then some other abbreviations as well (please see close up photo). Leather chinstrap is in very good condition, with only minor crazing in limited areas, but all leather is pliable. This helmet is a USMC issued helmet, as evidenced by the Eagle, Globe, & Anchor (EGA) device attached. This is a camouflaged USMC helmet, but the camo paint scheme is extremely muted and faded over time. Helmet has no discernible unit markings. EGA is attached by typical screwback attachment. Helmet outside shows age and scuffs, but just honest storage wear, and is free of dents. Overall most of the paint remains, but as noted earlier, the camo scheme is extremely faded. This is a very nice and honest example of an extremely hard to find USMC WWI “Devil Dog” helmet!
