Standard issue US WWI helmet with 89th Division insignia painted on both right and left sides.  Insignia consists of a stylized W with a sky blue middle section.  Helmet overall is in very good condition.  Liner is very nice shape, and is fully intact with cinch string and webbing.  Chinstrap is present, unbroken, and is pliable, with a couple small areas that are beginning to dry out.  Outside of helmet is standard olive drab green rough textured paint.  Area of surface rust above insignia on left side.  Helmet is free of dents or dings.  Soldier’s name “Lt. W.R. Gobel” written in large letters inside rear brim. 

US WWI Soldier’s Field Tunic – US standard issue WWI field tunic.  Came to us family of the soldier, and accompanied the helmet.  Lieutenant’s bars on shoulders, as well as crossed rifles on left side.  US devices on both sides of collar.  One US pin does not close or latch properly, backing appears damaged.  All bars and devices show some degree of wear, and look like a uniform that saw field service.  Tunic overall is in very good condition, showing some mothing, especially on left arm.  A few minor holes here and there.  All original buttons present and well attached.  Overall very good condition, with wear commensurate with a 100 year old field worn tunic.
