For sale is a Colt 1911 made in approximately 1924 as part of 10,000 guns ordered during that time for the US military. As such, this gun has many features found on the 1911A1 such as cut outs behind the trigger. This gun is 7098xx, and is at the very end of the contract. It features the circled Walter T. Gorton inspector mark on the left side just behind the trigger, as well as a “20” assembler proof on the right side. Slide is marked Model of 1911, and frame is US Property Marked. H Marks on top of frame, and under firing pin retaining plate. No serial number stamped under firing pin retaining plate, as is proper for this variation. Barrel marked Colt 45 Auto and has a G mark as well, denoting proper barrel for this pistol. Magazine is a WWII era replacement. Pistol functions fine, and has an excellent bore. Overall condition on the gun is approx 85% bright original blue, with high edge wear and loss on the left side of the slide. Original wood grips are in very fine condition, with crisp diamonds, and only a few scattered areas of wear or flattening. An all correct, unmolested example of this very rare Colt 1911 transitional pistol! We got this gun from the family of a Captain in the US Army, who was a lifer, having served from the pre-War to Post-War periods. This gun has never been on the market, and comes direct from the family of the GI who served.
