MODEL: Mauser 1888 Kar 88 Commission Carbine

For sale is a Mauser 1888 Kar 88 Commission Carbine, made in 1890 by V.C. Schilling and so marked on the receiver. All matching numbers, with the serial number repeated in whole or in part on the receiver, barrel, bolt, nosecap, rear signt, and magazine assembly. Rear sight base is marked 7,9 indicating caliber of rifle. Bore is bright with strong rifling. Wood does not appear to have been refinished, and is in very good overall condition. Stock has cracked on both sides of the tang, but both cracks are stable and are approx 3″ long, with no evidence of spreading. Gun is regimentally marked on the sling mount and the nosecap, with the regimental marks on the sling mount having been cancelled out. The receiver is also marked with an S, indicating modifications for use with modern 8mm ammunition. Rifle is well marked with Imperial proofs, with even some screws being marked. No import marks found, and no evidence of Turkish use. Rifle retains well over 80% of its original blue. Mounted with a very nice reproduction leather sling. Also included are three clips for the rifle, two are definite high quality reproductions, and one MAY be original, but we can’t say for sure.
